Belterra was inspired by the term Terra Bella, which means beautiful land in Portuguese.
We believe a brand new entertainment facility deserves a new name and image. Sharing a name creates a regional destination experience for our guests who already enjoy the quality services and amenities of Belterra Casino Resort. The name signals to guests that they will enjoy the same magical and memorable experiences they do at Belterra Casino Resort and at all of our fine Pinnacle Entertainment properties.
We are planning to open Belterra Park Gaming & Entertainment Center on May 1, 2014 (pending regulatory approval). Our goal is to open this beautiful facility prior to the most magical of all thoroughbred racing weekends, the Kentucky Derby (May 3).
The first day of live racing at Belterra Park will be on May 8, 2014.
Belterra Park Gaming & Entertainment Center sits on 122 acres of land owned by Pinnacle Entertainment just one hour from our Florence, Indiana resort Belterra Casino Resort (www.belterracasino.com). The property is located just east of downtown Cincinnati along the scenic Ohio River at Kellogg Ave, Exit 70 off of I - 275 East.
Belterra Park will combine the rich nearly 100 - year history of River Downs with the latest in gaming and entertainment amenities. The $300 - million gaming and entertainment center will feature the only turf track in the State of Ohio, in addition to a one mile dirt track.
The extended gaming facility will include 1,500 of the most current and popular video lottery terminals (VLTs). The property’s food and beverage will feature a dynamic buffet, Pinnacle Entertainment’s iconic Stadium Sports Bar & Grill and a delicious steakhouse that will also feature classic Italian culinary delights.
Belterra Park represents a major investment in the State of Ohio for Pinnacle Entertainment. We will spend more than $300 - million, including land and licensing fees, to renovate and expand the property into a state of the art gaming and entertainment center.
When constructed in 1925, the original track built under the name Coney Island Race Track, cost one - million dollars to build.
The legendary Seabiscuit made two appearances at River Downs in 1936; Spend a Buck also made headlines on the historic track. The first horse ever to step on the track was Black Gold, a horse that later won the Kentucky Derby and four other derbies.
Belterra Park will feature 48,000 square feet of gaming excitement with 1,500 of the most current and popular video lottery terminals (VLTs), OTB Racebook River Downs Club, valet parking and Pinnacle Entertainment’s brand wide player loyalty program, mychoice®.

Belterra Park will combine the latest in gaming and entertainment with the history and traditions of River Downs. Throughout the new design there are nods to the past.
  • • The original, ornate cupolas have been repurposed in the new design. Two cupolas from the grandstand will be incorporated into the design of the infield tote board and one will be located at the Winner’s Circle where it will be featured in photos for years to come.
  • • The historic turf track will remain; the 7/8th Mile track will be the only turf track in the State of Ohio. Over the years, this well - groomed turf course has drawn rave reviews from horsemen across the country.
  • • A special room will be dedicated to the nearly 100 - year history of the storied track. The River Downs Club, the property’s OTB, will feature original racetrack memorabilia such as framed jockey silks from Cradle Stakes races.
  • • Terra cotta horse head statues from the original River Downs grandstand have been preserved and will be on display on the lower level of the Belterra Park Grandstand.
Construction is on schedule with completion of the turf track, the main track and the tote board. 17 new barns have been erected and the maintenance building is up. Once complete, the barn area will feature 1,020 stalls. The Gaming & Entertainment Center building is almost fully enclosed.
